Two weeks ago, I found a long-forgotten note I’d written to myself. It read something like,
Stormy sea, sailors scurrying about. Sea monster tentacle comes up, breaks off mast, starts stabbing sailors with it. Cut to underwater: sea creatures having a dinner party with sailor kebabs.
The note was scrawled out on a scrap of paper (while a tad intoxicated) many years ago, and I instantly remembered what I had envisioned and decided that I NEED to make this idea a reality. I wanted to portray a situation from two very different perspectives. On one hand: something cinematic and iconic – a ship doomed by bad weather and sea monsters. Conversely, the same event in a comic and trivial light. I made several sketches by hand, then designed this poster-sized storyboard over several days.
